The TV Time Episode Comments Are Back: Where to Find Them

For a lot of people, the best part of TV Time was not the tracking. It was finishing an episode and scrolling down to see what everyone else thought. Thousands of reactions, theories and jokes sat under every episode.

When the service closed, those conversations went with it. Or they would have, if people had not saved them. The TV Time episode comments are readable again, and this article explains where to find them in OpenTV and where they come from.

Where they came from

In July 2026, before TV Time shut down, a community effort saved a copy of TV Time's public conversations. That copy is called the TV Community Archive. Names in it were anonymised to protect people's privacy.

CommsUni.tv grew out of that archive. It is a shared comments platform that several apps plug into, so the same conversations can be read in more than one app. OpenTV is one of them. CommsUni and the archive are made and looked after by one developer, separate from us.

So when you read an old comment in OpenTV, you are reading the archived TV Time conversation through CommsUni.

Where to find them in OpenTV

The comments sit where you would expect: under shows, episodes and films.

  1. Open a show and pick an episode.
  2. Scroll to the comments section on the episode page.
  3. You will see two tabs: OpenTV, for comments from OpenTV members, and CommsUni, for the shared board that holds the archived TV Time comments. Each tab shows how many comments it holds.

The CommsUni tab is marked "Comments by CommsUni.tv". Tap the small info button next to that label to see where the comments come from, with links to CommsUni.tv and the TV Community Archive.

You need to join the community

Reading comments needs a community account. OpenTV itself works with no account at all, and your library stays on your phone either way. Comments are the one part that lives on a server, because they are other people's words.

To join, tap Join the community on the comments section, or go to Settings, then the You tab. You can sign in with CONTINUE WITH APPLE or CONTINUE WITH GOOGLE.

Joining is optional. If you never join, the tracker keeps working exactly the same.

Sorting, filtering and translating

TV Time comments were written in many languages. A few tools help:

Long threads load twenty at a time. Tap Show more to keep reading. Replies are folded under each comment, so tap Show replies to open them.

Spoilers

Comments that were marked as spoilers are hidden behind a tap: "Spoiler, tap to show". You decide whether to look.

When you write your own comment, there is a Spoiler switch, so you can give others the same protection. As always with comments, it is safest to read them after you have watched the episode.

Writing and replying

You can add your own comment under any episode. Type it, tap Send, and it appears for other OpenTV members.

Replying to an archived TV Time comment works a little differently. A reply goes to CommsUni, where people using other apps can read it. So the first time, OpenTV asks whether you want to share your comments with CommsUni, and which name to use: your OpenTV name, or a name CommsUni makes up for you.

If you choose Keep on OpenTV only, your new comments stay on OpenTV, seen by OpenTV members. You can change this later in Settings, under Community, with Share comments with CommsUni.

Your own old comments

Separate from the archive, the comments you wrote on TV Time are in your own export ZIP. When you import it, OpenTV keeps them on your phone. They show up marked "From TV Time", and only you can see them.

If you join the community, you can choose to bring them across. In Settings, under Community, tap Bring your TV Time archive. That publishes your own comments, ratings and favourites, with their original dates.

Not imported yet? See how to get your TV Time history back. Curious which file holds them? See what's inside the TV Time export ZIP.

Your TV Time friends

The export also lists the people you followed. Once you join, OpenTV can look for them as they arrive. The Friends from TV Time screen shows who from your list is already here, and you can follow them again.

Reporting

If you find a comment that should not be there, you can report it. If you recognise one of your own old comments in the archive, there is an option to say "This is mine", to hide it or claim it later.

Read them yourself

OpenTV is free and open source, with no ads. Download it on the App Store or Google Play, import your history with our TV Time import guide, and join the community when you want to read the comments.
