Who Was Your Favourite? Character Votes for Every Episode

One of the small things people missed most about TV Time was the question at the bottom of every episode: who was your favourite? One tap on a face, and over the years it added up to a record of who you loved in every show you watched.

OpenTV asks the same question, on every episode and every film. If you are coming from TV Time, your old votes come with you.

It is free, and it works with no account.

Where to find it

Open an episode. Scroll past RATE THIS EPISODE and HOW DID YOU FEEL?, and you reach WHO WAS YOUR FAVORITE?

Below it is a row of faces you can scroll sideways. Where OpenTV has art for the characters themselves, which is often the case for anime, you see the characters. Otherwise you see the cast's photos, with the character's name under each one.

Films have the same question, on the film's page, under its own rating and feelings.

Voting

Tap a face. It gets a yellow border and a check, its name turns yellow, and everyone else in the row steps back a little so your answer stands out.

Changed your mind? Tap someone else. Want no answer at all? Tap your pick again and the vote is cleared.

For a film, you vote on something you have watched. If the film is not marked watched yet, OpenTV asks "Watched this movie?" and offers to mark it first.

One vote per episode, the way TV Time asked

TV Time asked the question per episode, not per show. Your favourite in the pilot can be someone else by the finale, and that change is part of the story.

OpenTV keeps it the same way. Each episode holds its own vote. When you import a TV Time export, every one of those per-episode votes is brought across, not just one per show.

If you have not imported yet, see how to get your TV Time history back. The export ZIP holds your votes along with your episodes and ratings. What's inside the TV Time export ZIP explains which file they are in.

Where your votes show up

Votes are not just stored. They come back in several places.

Stats. Open your Stats from the Profile. Among your numbers are Character votes, how many you have cast, and Most voted characters per show, which names your favourite in each show you watched.

Deep Stats. With OpenTV Plus, Deep Stats adds a Favourite characters table across your whole library.

Your profile. There is a Favourite character block you can place on your profile. Arranging your profile's blocks is part of OpenTV Plus.

The daily puzzle. In Guess the title, the last clue for a show is a famous character, and it is the one you voted for most often. More on that in Guess the title, a daily TV puzzle.

Seeing who everyone else picked

Joining the community is optional. If you join, the poll also shows a percentage under each face: how many people picked that character.

The order can change too. The most popular characters move toward the front of the row, so the faces you are most likely to want are easy to reach.

The community count works per person per show, at each person's most recent favourite. So a percentage under a face is a share of people, not a share of a pile of votes from a few heavy users.

If you join, the people who follow you can also see in their Activity that you picked a favourite character in a show. If they have not watched that episode yet, the card stays locked with "Watch it to see", so it never spoils anything. If you would rather not appear there, switch off Show my activity to followers.

If you never join, your votes stay on your phone, and the poll shows only your own pick.

Why it is worth a tap

A rating says how good an episode was. A feeling says what it did to you. A favourite says who carried it.

Years later, the favourites are often the part people enjoy looking back at most. You can see the season where a side character took over, or the show where your answer never changed once.

A few tips

Is it free?
